How to form this
Four words that end in uck. Only the first letter changes, so the hand repeats the same ending four times and the eye starts to see uck as one chunk rather than 3 separate letters.
What to watch for
Read the four aloud before writing. A child who hears that duck and luck differ by one sound is doing the work that makes reading click, and the writing then reinforces it.
Words to say while tracing
Saying a word out loud while the pencil is moving links the mark to a sound instead of leaving it an abstract squiggle. Try duck, luck and tuck.
How the rows work
The page does not repeat one row five times. The first row shows the mark drawn solid with a numbered green dot where each stroke starts and an arrow for the direction. The next rows are dotted to trace. Then only the start dots remain, and the last row is a ruled line and nothing else.
